Like every year, November 19th was a special day for all Monegasques and residents of Monaco, who celebrated the National Day.
The day began with a solemn Te Deum mass, followed by a military show on the Palace Square.
A traditional moment gathered then, the population outside, in front of the Palace, to see Princely Family appearing on the balcony.
The people demonstrated through their applause their support and affection for S.A.S. Prince Albert II and His Family.
Originally, the day of the National Day was upon the surname of the sovereign prince. Under Charles III, who reigned from 1857 to 1890, has been decided on November 4th, because it was the day of the St Charles.
When prince Albert 1st succeeded, it was chosen to November 15th, day of the St Albert. The St Rainier day is on November 19th and therefore the National Day remained that date at the time of the amendment of Rainier III, and it should have been November 15th again when Prince Albert II climbed on top.
Prince Albert II decided to maintain November 19th in memory of His father.
