Australia and Monaco

Diplomatic Relations

The 3 May 2007, H.E. Ms Penelope Anne WENSLEY, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia  to Monaco, submitted her Credentials to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, thus establishing Diplomatic Relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Commonwealth of Australia and becoming the first Ambassador from this country to be represented in Monaco.

H.E. Mr. David Alexander Ritchie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia, replaced H.E. Ms. Wensley and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 8 July 2008. He presented his Letters of Credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 25 November 2008.

H.E. Mr. Ric Lawson WELLS, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia, replaced H.E. Mr. David Alexander RITCHIE and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 17 March 2011. He presented his Letters of Credence to Him on 15 January 2013.

H.E. Mr. Stephen BRADY, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia, replaced H.E. Mr. WELLS and was accredited by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince on 4 September 2014. He presented his Letters of Credence to Him on 3 February 2015.

Reciprocally, H.E. Mr. Henri Fissore was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to H.E. the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia by a Sovereign Ordinance of 17 September 2007, thus becoming the first Ambassador of Monaco to this country.

H.E. Ms. Catherine Fautrier replaced H.E. Mr. Fissore (Sovereign Ordinance of 16 June 2011) as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Monaco to H.E. the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia.

H.E. Ms. Catherine Fautrier presented his Letters of Credence to Ms Quentin BRYCE, Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia on 24 November 2011.

H.E Mrs. Marie-Pascale BOISSON replaced H.E. Mrs. C. FAUTRIER and presented her credentials on February 22, 2021 to H.E. the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia during a virtual ceremony.

H.E. Mrs. Gillian BIRD replaced H.E. Mr. S BRADY and presented her credentials on March 8, 2021 to H.S.H. The Sovereign Prince

Consular Relations

Consular Relations between the Principality and the Commonwealth of Australia have existed since 27 August 1959, the date on which Mr. Vincent John Flynn was appointed Honorary Consul of Monaco in Sydney.

Australia has never opened a Consulate in Monaco.

The Principality of Monaco also has two Consulates in Australia, in Sydney and Melbourne.

17 October 2011: Visit by Mr. William Fisher, Special Envoy of the Australian Prime Minister responsible for French-speaking States.

1 and 2 July 2011: H.E. Mr. David Ritchie, Ambassador of Australia to Monaco, represented his country on the occasion of the Royal Wedding.

12 and 13 November 2006: Visit by the Prime Minister of Queensland, Mr. Peter Beattie, and the Ambassador of Australia to France, H.E. Ms. Penelope Wensley.

Official trips to Australia

10 March 2012: H.S.H. Princess Charlene, accompanied by H.E. Ms. Catherine Fautrier, Ambassador of Monaco to Australia, attended the inauguration of the Grace Kelly exhibition in Bendigo.
